Republic of Kyrgyzstan
Who & why: Kyrgyzstan declared independence on 31 August 1991. Its post-Soviet politics have been comparatively turbulent among the Central Asian republics: the 2005 Tulip Revolution ousted President Askar Akayev; a 2010 uprising ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev amid deadly unrest; and disputed 2020 parliamentary elections led to unrest and the resignation of President Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
What it represents: a red field bearing a yellow sun of 40 rays (representing the 40 original Kyrgyz tribes), containing a stylized red tunduk, the wooden crown or roof-ring of a traditional Kyrgyz yurt, adopted in March 1992.
Wikipedia's infobox gives adoption on 3 March 1992 and Flags of the World states 'Flag Adopted 1992-MAR-3', by decision of the Supreme Soviet, as a red flag with a golden sun of 40 rays surrounding a stylised tunduk (the roof of a yurt), the rays standing for the forty tribes or Manas's forty soldiers.

Not established: Both sources say the flag was modified on 22 December 2023 (the sun and tunduk redrawn), so the design described here is the 1992-2023 flag; the page's 1991 start precedes the 1992 adoption (FOTW treats 1990-1992 as a Soviet-flag period and calls a flag without the hammer and sickle 'erroneous'). The tunduk's colour (red) is not stated by the sources.
