National Archives of Australia — RecordSearch
Immigration and naturalisation files, service records and alien registration — including the wartime files of European arrivals. NO DEEP LINK IS POSSIBLE, AND THAT IS THE FINDING. Tried on 2026-09-30: RecordSearch runs on a server session and says so itself — «you are no longer in an active session… a link or bookmark referred to an expired session… RecordSearch requires cookies to be enabled to store a session identifier». A URL carrying a surname cannot be handed to somebody; it lands them on an expiry notice rather than a result. So this row deliberately has no `deepLink` where Cognomix and others do, and anything that wants to send a reader here has to send them to the search screen to type it themselves. Access is genuinely free — the site offers «search as a guest» without an account — which is why it stays `free`.

The ground it holds
Record regions whose registers are filed here, and for which years.
- 1788–1859 New South Wales — THE TRAP. Queensland did not exist before 6 JUNE 1859. A birth at Brisbane in 1850 is a NEW SOUTH WALES record, indexed by New South Wales, and searching Queensland's index for it returns nothing at all.
- 1901–2026 Australia — State of Queensland
This map knows National Archives of Australia — RecordSearch covers AU, but nobody has walked its catalogue into the shelf. That is a gap in this map, not a gap in the record. Help fill it →
