Where the records of Argentina are, who holds them, and what it costs to look. 26,945,310 indexed records reachable through FamilySearch alone.
None of the 1 checked source here can be opened from a keyboard. 1is a catalogue card or paper in a building — a letter, not a click. On top of that, 9 worldwide services reach Argentina without a subscription.
1 more institution is listed here and has never been checked — nobody has opened it, written to it, or found out what it holds. They are on the map as grey because that is what they are, and the honest reading of this page is 0 known-open, 1 unknown.
Write to Archivo General de la Nación (Argentina) for what is not online. FamilySearch has 42 collections covering it, running 1556–2022, 26,945,310 indexed records. One piece of this ground is mapped for jurisdiction, so the atlas can say whose archive held it in a given year.
293 places placed, 19 volumes walked. Open Argentina on the map, or tell us what is missing.
Whose archive this ground was
Record regions mapped in Argentina — which empire held the ground, and therefore which archive holds its paper.
- Santa Fe — Rosario 3 eras Rosario, Santa Fe
The archives
- Archivo General de la Nación (Argentina) catalogue Buenos Aires, Argentina
Argentina's national archive — immigration and naturalisation above all. Civil registration itself is PROVINCIAL and is not here; the provinces keep their own.
- CEMLA — Centro de Estudios Migratorios Latinoamericanos unsurveyed
Buenos Aires port arrival books, 1882–1960, indexed by passenger name. Worked by the Blažević archive across four spellings of the same surname — which is how it has to be worked, because the clerk wrote what he heard. Not yet surveyed. NO SEAT RECORDED, DELIBERATELY. This is the one row the source-layer audit's `at` finding genuinely applies to — every other row it named is a COUNTRYWIDE kind, which sourcesNear() exempts from distance sorting, so a missing seat costs them nothing. CEMLA is filed as an index and is sorted by distance, and it does sink. Its Wikidata item (Q140429797) states a country, a founding year and a website and NO coordinates, so there is nothing to write: the institute is in Buenos Aires by its own description, which is prose and not a claim, and a coordinate inferred from prose is the guess this project refuses.
And 12 worldwide providers reach Argentina too — the full list.

The descriptions are his, not an archive's catalogue, and nobody here has opened the volumes behind them. Every link was tried on 2026-09-20 and answered; the ones that did not are not listed.
