ICRC Archives - Central Agency tracing files, Second World War
The International Committee of the Red Cross holds data on individuals collected by it and its tracing agencies in conflicts since 1870, to restore family links and protect prisoners of war, civilian internees and war victims: card files, lists, individual files and general documents. Documents become public after 70 years under conditions set out in a linked PDF. A search-engine summary of other ICRC pages reports the Agency's card index passed 36 million cards by June 1947 and that new research requests are currently paused with a notice pointing to tracing.archives@icrc.org; that status was not confirmed on the page read. Individuals are found through nominal lists plus birth date and place, father's first name and POW number.
